Follow the Getting started guide

Updated October 28, 2026

Getting started gathers what it takes for your Contacts to write to you. Open App settings, then Getting started, under Developers in the menu: click Developers to show or hide its pages. An App with no platform opens on “Choose your platform”. After that, Getting started lists its platforms, each with its Mode, “Development” or “Production”: “See the steps” or “Continue” opens its own, and “All platforms” goes back to the list. The menu marks it “To do” while a platform is not ready. The install step’s Full guide button opens the documentation. The Zean team’s welcome message links to it too. It is for Admins and the Owner.

The steps

  1. Choose your platform: click the card of your website or your app, then “Next step”. That platform’s steps show in its place, in Development Mode.
  2. Install the chat: with “With your AI assistant”, pick your tool and copy its Setup prompt into the AI assistant of your code editor, which installs the chat for you. With “Step by step”, pick your tool (HTML, WordPress, Shopify, Next.js…), or type its name to find it, and paste the code shown. The step is ticked as soon as the chat loads on your site, on your computer for example.
  3. Customise the chat: check the colour, position and welcome text, then click “Next step”.
  4. Webhook, optional: all in the step. Create the CLI key, your developer runs the command shown, then send a Test event. See Test your webhook on your computer.
  5. Turn on notifications and invite your team: optional, the chat works without them.
  6. Move to production: the Production checklist shows, ticked by itself. It blocks nothing. See Development and Production Modes.
  7. Customise, the webhook, notifications and the team apply to the whole App: once done, they do not come back in another platform’s steps.

For a React Native app, choose the “React Native” card. The first step, “Set your Bundle ID and Package name”, asks for your iOS and Android app IDs: the chat shows in no other app. If your app connects first, the step offers its ID in one click. Then come the install, Customise the chat, the webhook, notifications, the team, and Move to production. To install it, copy the Setup prompt for your AI assistant, or, with “Step by step”, the step opens the install guide in the documentation. The install is ticked as soon as your app connects, or when you click “Next step”.

When a platform’s Production checklist is done, a message confirms it and the platform reads “Production” in the list. “Remove”, in the list, takes a platform off after you confirm: its Domain, or its Bundle ID and Package name, are cleared and the chat no longer shows there. Conversations stay.
